I've been there. I had the busy high-powered job and was being pulled in all directions. I know what it feels when you have a million and one things to do and you can't find time to think nevermind care about your own health. I decided to learn everything I could about wellbeing and resilience, and became my own science experiment to improve my health. Now I've guided hundreds of people be more healthy so they don't have to do the research.

I know you want to be the kind of leader who authentically brings inspiration and charisma to their team. Yet to do that, you need to bring your best, most energetic self to work every day.

The problem is you are running on empty. You feel exhausted from doing too much and not sleeping well but you feel guilty if you spend you spend time on yourself rather than doing things for parents, children or work. How can you show the best you if you are struggling with flare ups of health issues or simply not enjoying life’s simple pleasures, such as friends, family, food or sex?

I believe that we can bring our best selves to work and still have time and energy to enjoy life outside of work.

But I know from experience how difficult it can be to find that balance. For 10 years I worked in senior roles developing organisational strategy whilst trying to manage a chronic health condition that left me in pain on a daily basis. It was exhausting. It was only when I started looking after my physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing that I was able to make transformative changes to my long term health, become pain free and be my authentic vitality to my work. It was then that I decided I wanted to help others do the same.

But having been research scientist for 10 years I wanted what I offered to grounded in a rigorous, scientific approach. I also love learning so it wasn’t hard for me to spend:

  • Six years training to be a Consultant Medical Herbalist
  • Two years training in health coaching coupled with cognitive and motivational coaching techniques
  • Two years training in contemplative psychology and
  • 20 years studying meditation and mindfulness techniques including 6 months training to be a meditation teacher.

That's why I help leaders move beyond gimmicky wellbeing lunchbreaks and develop their own wellbeing programmes that are scientifically proven to have better health outcomes and so improve organisational productivity and profitability.

Victoria Wright Phd, Founder of The Living Herb, is a scientist, qualified medical herbalist and health coach. 

She has a passion for scientific research and helping people, and has developed a technique called Compassionate Coaching, which combines more than 20 years of meditation experience with cognitive and motivational coaching techniques and contemplative psychology.
